NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (NEET) exam process

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a national level examination for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in India.

  1. Online registration: Candidates must register for the exam through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The registration process includes filling in personal and academic details, uploading required documents, and paying the application fee.

  1. Admit Card: Once the registration process is complete, candidates can download their admit card from the official website. The admit card contains important details such as the candidate’s name, roll number, examination centre, and date of the exam.

  1. Examination: The NEET exam is held annually in the month of May. The exam is conducted in pen and paper mode, and the duration of the exam is 3 hours. The question paper is divided into three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology).

  1. Answer key and OMR sheet: After the exam, the National Testing Agency releases the official answer key on its website. Candidates can also download their OMR sheet, which is the sheet on which their answers have been marked.

  1. Results: The results are usually declared in the month of June. The results are published on the official website and can be accessed by entering the candidate’s roll number.

  1. Counselling: Candidates who qualify in the NEET exam are eligible for counselling. The counselling process is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and is done in two rounds. Candidates are allotted seats based on their rank and their preferences for colleges and courses.

  1. Reporting at the Allotted Medical/Dental College: finally the candidate have to report to the allotted college with all the original documents and fees.

  1. Mode of Exam: The NEET exam is conducted in pen and paper mode.

  1. Duration: The duration of the exam is 3 hours.

  1. Number of Questions: The question paper consists of a total of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

  1. Marking Scheme: Each correct answer carries 4 marks and for each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

  1. Language: The question paper is available in 11 languages: Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

  1. Section: The question paper is divided into three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology).

  1. Distribution of questions:

     Physics – 45 questions.

     Chemistry – 45 questions.

     Biology (Botany) – 45 questions.

     Biology (Zoology) – 45 questions.

  1. Total marks: The question paper is of 720 marks.
